La fotografa di San Francisco Carey Fruth chiama sul set uno squadrone di 14 donne per lanciare un unico messaggio: la bellezza non ha regole e risiede solo nella “differenza”. Nude e in mezzo a un mare di petali di lillà, queste donne sono diverse l’una all’altra per età, forme, dimensioni, colore della pelle, etnia.
La serie di foto è ispirata alla famosa scena di American Beauty, il capolavoro del 1999 vincitore di 5 premi Oscar. Nella scena in questione, il protagonista (interpretato da Kevin Spacey) ha un sogno erotico sulla migliore amica della figlia, che si trova immersa in un letto di petali di rosa. Nel film la ragazza oggetto dei desideri è bionda e magra. Altra storia nel servizio fotografico di Carey che vuole dimostrare che la bellezza non si presta ai canoni e alle regole.
